Ruth Zimmerling

Ruth Zimmerling (* 1953 ) is a German political scientist and university professor.

Life

Ruth Zimmerling studied mathematics and economics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1972 to 1978 . Following her diploma in mathematics, she began studying Islamic philology in 1977, which she completed as an MA in 1982 . From 1984 to 1992 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Mainz. In December 1982 she completed her PhD in political science with an award-winning thesis on the Andean Pact . After lecturing at the universities of Mainz, Cologne , Stuttgart , Frankfurt am Main and Bamberg , she took on a substitute professorship at the University of Frankfurt am Main. In 2002 Zimmerling completed his habilitation with a thesis on influence and power at the TU Darmstadt . Since April 2003 she has been Professor of Political Theory at the University of Mainz. There she has been managing director of the Institute for Political Science since 2019.

Zimmerling is a member of the German Political Science Association and was a member of the Tampere Club for many years . Her research focuses on political theory , democracy theory and Latin American studies .
