Surname
The name of the place Rutten comes from a village called Ruthne that was lost here in the 14th century . This was north of Urk . Ruthne itself goes back to the Germanic word Ruhitha for scrub.
history
Rutten was designed as a village in 1952 by the Dutch graduate engineer W. Bruin and laid out for 1,000 residents. The place is at the intersection of the road N 712 and the Ruttensweg, around which the shops and handicraft businesses were settled. This intersection structure created four quadrants , three of which were built on. The fourth was reserved for leisure and recreation and the local holiday park is therefore also called the Green Quadrant . In 1953 the first residents moved into the houses. In 1989, permits were given for further expansion of the place.
