Ryosuke Iwasa ( Jap. 岩佐亮佑 , Iwasa Ryosuke * 26. December 1989 in Kashiwa , Chiba Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese boxer in the super bantamweight and current world champion of the Association IBF .

Professional career

Iwasa successfully started his professional career in 2008 with a victory over his compatriot Shinya Takahashi in a 6-round fight through technical knockout in round 5. Seven more victories followed. In March 2011, the southpaw suffered his first defeat; he lost for the Japanese championship title against Shinsuke Yamanaka by TKo in round 10. In November of the same year Iwasa boxed against Jerope Mercado again for the "this time vacant Japanese belt" and won after 10 rounds unanimously on points.

In 2013 he won the OPBF title when he defeated Hiroki Shiino in round 5 by TKo in a 12-round battle. By majority decision he defended this belt the following year against Richard Pumicpic.

Iwasa competed against Brit Lee Haskins in the bantamweight division in the summer of 2015 for the IBF interim world champion title and suffered his second bust.

On September 13, 2017, Iwawa met fellow countryman Yukinori Oguni . This fight was about the IBF World Championship title. Iwasa won by technical knockout in the 6th round and thus became world champion.
