Ryan Marc Edwards (born November 17, 1993 in Singapore ) is an Australian football player who plays on the position of midfielder for Burton Albion .

Singapore-born Edwards played youth football at the Australian Institute of Sport and Reading FC before making his professional debut for Perth Glory on loan in 2013 . In 2015 Edwards left Reading to join the Scottish Premiership club Partick Thistle . Edwards left Thistle after relegation from the first division in 2018 and signed with Heart of Midlothian .

He represented the U20 and U23 national teams of Australia. In March 2017 Edwards was called up for the first time in the Australian senior team.

Ryan Edwards was born in Singapore to the former Australian national soccer player and current coach Alistair Edwards and a mother from Singapore. In order to waive the conscription in Singapore for which he was called up, he gave up the citizenship of the country. His older brother Cameron is also a professional footballer.

Until 2011, Edward played at the Australian Institute of Sport . On April 29, 2011 it was announced that he and his older brother Cameron would be moving to Reading FC in England . After spending two years in the club's youth, he was awarded to Perth Glory in Australia from July 2013 to June 2014 . His father was coach of Perth at the time. This helped him in October 2013, his debut as a professional when he was in the 2013/14 season at a 1: 3 away defeat against Adelaide United was used. After the season he returned to Reading.

After another year and seven appearances in the English second division, the expiring contract of Edwards was not extended.

In September 2015, Edwards signed a one-year contract with Partick Thistle from the Scottish Premiership . Edwards made his debut in a 3-0 win over Dundee United in October 2015. On April 1, 2016, Edwards extended his contract to the end of the 2016/17 season , which he extended in June 2016 to summer 2020. After the club was relegated to the second division at the end of the 2017/18 season , he left the club prematurely through a clause in the contract.

On June 6, 2018, Edwards signed a two-year contract with Heart of Midlothian . At the end of August 2018, Edwards was loaned to FC St. Mirren . He returned to Hearts in January 2019 to make his Edinburgh Derby debut against Hibernian in April 2019. He reached the Scottish Cup final of 2019 with the Hearts . He lost with the team after the opening goal that he had scored himself with 1: 2 against Celtic Glasgow .

In July 2019, he moved to Burton Albion .

National team

Ryan Edwards was the captain of Australia's U20 national team and part of the squad that competed in the 2013 World Cup.

With the U23 he took part in the Asian Cup in 2013 and 2016 . In March 2017 Edwards was called up for the first time in the Australian senior team. However, he was not used there.
