Ryan Ferreira

Ryan Ferreira (* around 1980) is an American jazz and fusion musician ( guitar ) who also works in the field of improvisation music .

Live and act

Ferreira first began to play rock music (influenced by his parents' music collection) . He studied at the Eastman School of Music and met musicians such as Bobby McFerrin , Peter Erskine , Dave Holland and Kenny Wheeler . He worked in the New York jazz scene from the early 2000s; first recordings were made in 2003 with The Respect Sextet (album The Full Respect , with Eli Asher , James Hirschfeld , Josh Rutner , Red Wierenga , Malcolm Kirby , Ted Poor ). In 2004 he worked as a guest soloist with the hr big band at their Steely Dan tribute Do It Again . With the jersey band , which is committed to the fusion of jazz and metal , he released several albums and EPs between 2003 and 2011.

In the following years he played a. a. with André Canniere , Janet Planet , Ike Sturm, Chris Dingman ( Waking Dreams , 2010), with Tim Bernes Snakeoil ( You've Been Watching Me , ECM, 2014) and with Colin Stetson ( Sorrow (A Reimagining of Gorecki's 3rd Symphony) , 2016). In the field of jazz he was involved in seven recording sessions between 2003 and 2014.

In 2015 he was invited to the SWR New Jazz Meeting with Fabian Almazan , Anna Webber , Chris Dingman , Linda Oh and Henry Cole ; a double CD was created with parts of the concerts ( Realm of Possibilities ). He is currently a member of Stephan Crump's band Elemental . In 2015 he taught as Artist in Residence at the School of Music at the University of Washington in Seattle.
