Ryan Johnson (born November 26, 1984 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican football player.

Life

Johnson attended Melrose High School in Massachusetts and Oregon State University, and won several league, regional, and state titles with high school and college soccer teams. In 2002, his senior year of high school, he was named Player of the Year by the Boston Globe .

He is married and has one daughter.

Club career

Since 2002 Johnson played for the Cape Cod Crusaders and Boulder Rapids Reserve. From 2006 he played in Major League Soccer (MLS), in his first season at Real Salt Lake and then moved to Chicago Fire . In 2007 he went to Sweden to Östers IF and scored two goals in 14 appearances. In 2008 he returned to the USA and played for the San José Earthquakes in the MLS. From 2008 to 2011 he scored 17 goals in 99 games for the club. In 2011 he moved to Toronto FC , who also plays in the MLS. After two years at the Canadian club, he was signed by the league competitor Portland Timbers in 2013 .

National team

He made his debut in the Jamaican national soccer team on April 11, 2006 when he was on the pitch for 71 minutes in a 1-1 draw against the USA in Cary (North Carolina) . He scored his first goal in the reggae boyz jersey on February 10, 2010 in Buenos Aires in a friendly against Argentina . So far, he has scored five goals for Jamaica in 15 appearances.
