Rayo Oklahoma City is a former American football - Franchise of the North American Soccer League in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma .

After only one season in the North American Soccer League, the team stopped playing again.

history

On November 10, 2015, the North American Soccer League announced that Rayo OKC would be a new franchise in the league from the 2016 season. The main owner of the team is the Spaniard Raúl Martín Presa, who also owns the Spanish football club Rayo Vallecano . Most of the management was taken over by former Oklahoma City FC employees . The Canadian Alen Marcina took over as coach.

For the first season, the franchise was able to sign a number of internationally experienced players. Among them are u. a. the Greek international Georgios Samaras , the Ghanaian national player Derek Boateng and also the Bundesliga experienced goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes . On the first day of the game, the team did not get beyond a draw at Edmonton FC . The first win came on the third matchday 3-2 against Miami FC . The franchise's first goalscorer is Jamaican Ryan Johnson , who scored the first goal in club history on April 9, 2016.

The season ended with an 8th place in the spring season and a 4th place in the fall season.

On December 1, 2016, it was announced that Rayo OKC had released all of its players and none of the franchisees were at the annual NASL club owners meeting. In January 2017, the game was officially closed.

Stadion

The home games were played at Miller Stadium. The 6,000-seat stadium is located on the grounds of Yukon High School in Yukon, Oklahoma .
