Ryan Barrow Succop (born September 19, 1986 in Hickory , North Carolina , United States ) is an American football player on the position of the kicker . He played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans . Succop is currently a free agent .

Early years

Succop went to high school in his hometown of Hickory. Here he played soccer and American football . Then he went to the University of South Carolina . In his first year on the college football team, he shot the kickoffs and was a substitute kicker. In the following years he kicked field goals and point after touchdown attempts more often .

NFL

Succop was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft as the 254th and last player in the draft overall by the Kansas City Chiefs and thus received the title " Mr. Irrelevant ". He signed a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. In his first season, he had the highest field goal percentage ever achieved by a rookie . He also set the franchise record for most field goals scored by a rookie in a season for Kansas City. In 2014 he moved to the Tennessee Titans . In his first game for Tennessee, he converted four of four field goal attempts and two of two points after touchdown to a 26:10 victory against his old team.

In the 2019 season , Succop was only used from week 9 after an injury, but only hit one of six field goal attempts and 24 of 25 extra points before he was placed on the injured reserve list after matchday 15 . He was released from the Titans on March 13, 2020.
