Alex Tarics (born September 23, 1913 as Sándor Tarics in Budapest , † May 21, 2016 in San Francisco , California ) was a Hungarian water polo player and especially in the United States a well-known architect .

Tarics took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , where he was used in the group game against Malta , which Hungary won 12-0; he threw four goals. Hungary qualified for the final round, but Tarics was not used. After a 5-0 win against France, a 2-2 draw for the Hungarian national team ( György Bródy , Kálmán Hazai , Olivér Halassy , Márton Homonnay , Jenő Brandi , János Németh , Mihály Bozsi , István Molnár , Györkány Kutasi and Miklós Sárkány ) was enough against Germany to win the gold medal .

Tarics emigrated to the USA in 1948, where he studied civil engineering at the universities of Berkeley and Fort Wayne . He graduated with a doctorate.

Most recently Tarics was the oldest living Olympic champion in 1936 and since the death of the Italian cyclist Attilio Pavesi in August 2011, the oldest living gold medal winner at the Olympic Games . Tarics was a visitor to the 2008 Summer Olympics water polo final in Beijing. He was a guest of honor at the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

He last lived in the noble town of Belvedere near San Francisco.
