São Martinho is a locality and former municipality in Portugal .

history

A Roman bridge has been preserved from Roman times .

The current town was probably created in the course of the new settlements after the Reconquista . São Martinho was first officially documented in the royal surveys of the 13th century. In 1348 it was already an independent municipality.

With the territorial reform of 2013, the community was dissolved and merged with Santa Marinha to form a new community.

São Martinho was a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Seia , in the district of Guarda . It had an area of ​​6.7 km² and 638 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

The municipality comprised two localities:

  • Póvoa Nova
  • São Martinho

As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal , the municipality was dissolved on September 29, 2013 and merged with Santa Marinha to form the new municipality União das Freguesias de Santa Marinha e São Martinho . The seat of the municipality was Santa Marinha, while the municipal administration in São Martinho remained as a citizens' office.
