São Romão is a locality and former municipality in Portugal . The Rio Alva flows through the municipality. In the village of Senhora do Desterro there is a river lido .
history
Finds point to a prehistoric settlement at least as far as the Copper Age . The excavations of a fortified settlement of the Castro culture lead back to the year 1200 BC. Chr.
The place was repopulated around 1106 AD, as part of the settlement policy of the Reconquista . São Romão got its first city rights in 1144. It remained the seat of an independent district until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the Miguelistenkrieg that followed in 1834 , in which the place stood on the side of the defeated absolutist King D. Miguel . In 1836 the São Romão district was dissolved and has been a parish in Seia County ever since.
With the territorial reform of 2013, the municipality of São Romão was dissolved and merged with two others to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Seia, São Romão e Lapa dos Dinheiros . The official seat of the municipality was the district town of Seia, but the municipality resides de facto in São Romão. The town also retained its status as a small town ( Vila ).

In addition to the various quarters and districts of the small town of São Romão, the village of Senhora do Desterro also belonged to the municipality.
As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal , the municipality of São Romão was dissolved on September 29, 2013 and merged with Seia and Lapa dos Dinheiros to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Seia, São Romão e Lapa dos Dinheiros . The official seat of the municipality was the district town of Seia, while the municipal administration resides mainly in São Romão.
