Södertälje Kings is a Swedish basketball team from Södertälje . It is the men's team from Södertälje BBK .

history

The Södertälje BBK association was founded in 1968. Between 1978 and 1992, the club was Swedish basketball champion six times before the men's team was hived off. In the 1980s and 1990s the club also took part in European Cup competitions several times . Between 1987 and 1993 they played in the European Cup Winners' Cup , in which the team was unsuccessful. Between the 1995/96 and 2000/01 season, the club was represented four times in the Korać Cup , where it was also unsuccessful.

After the spin-off, the Kings made it to the finals for Swedish supremacy in basketball for the first time in 1996. Against the New Wave Sharks they lost the series 2: 3. In the following year, despite a bad main season, they only came eighth out of ten, again in the play-off final. Again the Kings had to admit defeat 2: 3, this time against Plannja Basket . In the 2004/05 season, the first championship win after the spin-off and the seventh overall. The final series against the Sundsvall Dragons was won 4-2. After that, it wasn't enough for a big hit for the time being, Södertälje failed in the semi-finals in 2004, 2008 and 2011, and in 2012 the Kings lost the final series against Norrköping Dolphins 2: 4.

In 2012/13 the Kings took part in the EuroChallenge and narrowly failed in the first group stage. In the same season, the Kings were able to win their eighth championship. The title was defended in the 2013/14 season. In 2015 the Kings won their tenth Swedish championship and the fourth under their current name.
