Friedrich von Graevenitz (Forest Master)

Erich Friedrich Hans Karl von Graevenitz (born January 4, 1790 in Marihn , † November 22, 1870 in Neustrelitz ) was a German forester , officer and court official in Mecklenburg-Strelitz .

Life

Friedrich von Graevenitz came from the Mecklenburg branch of the noble family von Graevenitz . His father was the chamberlain Hans von Graevenitz (1756–1843) on Waschow and Dodow (both today districts of Wittendbod ), his mother Gustava, nee. von Oertzen (1770–1849), a daughter of Georg Ludwig von Oertzen on Kittendorf .

Around 1810 he began training in forestry at Johann Heinrich Cotta's forestry school in Zillbach (Schwallungen) . In 1812 he entered the service of Charles II (Mecklenburg) . In spring 1813 he followed the Duke's call to participate in the Wars of Liberation and signed up for the Mecklenburg-Strelitz Hussar Regiment . He received an appointment as second lieutenant and took part in the campaign until the summer of 1814, which led him to Paris . On March 31, 1814, he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class for his service .

In the summer of 1814 he returned to Neustrelitz. In 1815 he was appointed chamberlain and forest and hunting junker. Around 1820 he became chamberlain, in 1824 chamber assessor and forester . From 1829 to 1863 he served as Oberland forester hunting and forestry operation of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In 1841, on the occasion of Caroline zu Mecklenburg's marriage to the Danish Crown Prince, he was awarded the Royal Prussian Order of St. John and after the restoration of the Order of Knights in 1852 he was Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John . In 1864 Duke Friedrich Wilhelm II appointed him President of the ducal chamber and awarded him the Grand Commander's Cross of the House Order of the Wendish Crown .

On July 8, 1831, he married Oktavia, born in Darmstadt . von Günderrode (1810–1870), a daughter of the Grand Ducal Hessian Higher Appeal Court President Friedrich Justinian von Günderrode , whereby he also became a member of the Frankfurt patriciate.

The couple had four sons and two daughters. Their daughter Marie (1832–1913) married Wilhelm von Blücher (1827–1910), their son Gebhard von Blücher (1856–1892) was the father of Joachim von Blücher .
