Soke Dinkla

Söke Dinkla (* 1962 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German art historian , curator and director of the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg .

Life

She studied art history, literary studies, folklore and biology in Kiel, Hamburg and Bielefeld. In 1990 she was a curator at the Siemens cultural program in Munich. In 1996 she received her doctorate from the University of Hamburg with a dissertation on the history and aesthetics of interactive art. Since then she has been working as a curator for contemporary art with a focus on art in public spaces and new media.

From 1996 to 1997 she worked as a freelance curator, from 1998 to 2000 as a permanent curator at the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. During this time she curated projects like InterAct! Key Works of Interactive Art (1997) and Connected Cities. Art processes in the urban network (1999). From 2000 to 2007 she was the curator for the Akzente culture festival in Duisburg and curated exhibitions and projects with Jenny Holzer , Duane Michals , Les Levine and others. a. From 2005 to 2007 she was a mentor for Public Art when Essen applied for the Ruhr Area as European Capital of Culture 2010. In 2007 she took over the management of the Capital of Culture office RUHR.2010 in Duisburg and was then responsible for art in public space at the city of Duisburg. She curates both temporary and permanent projects in urban space, such as most recently the large walk-in sculpture Tiger and Turtle - Magic Mountain by Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth in Duisburg. In May 2013, she took over from Raimund Stecker on an interim basis in the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. On December 20, 2013, the Board of Trustees of the Lehmbruck Museum Foundation appointed her to the Board of Directors of the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum Foundation and as the director of the museum. She is married, has one son and lives with her family in Essen.

Dinkla is a signatory of the nationwide campaign NRW Declaration of the Many from November 2018, which promotes cohesion in art and culture as part of civil society engagement against right-wing populist and nationalist movements.
