Raimund Stecker (* 1957 in Duisburg ) is a German art historian .

Vita

Raimund Stecker was born in Duisburg in 1957. He is married and has two daughters. He lives and works in Berlin , Düsseldorf and Essen .

From 1971 to 1974 he completed a bookbinder apprenticeship, during which he at Tünn Konerding books and runs for Otto Piene , Uecker , Blinky Palermo and January Schoonhoven manufactured and Joseph Beuys first met. Then he made the technical college entrance qualification and his Abitur. He studied art history, philosophy, modern history, journalism and communication studies in Bochum , Hamburg and Florence . He received his doctorate from the Ruhr University Bochum with Max Imdahl. He wrote his dissertation on The Stations of the Cross - Lema Sabachthani by Barnett Newman .

Since 1981 he has been writing and writing as a freelancer for the Westdeutsche- and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Die Welt and various international art magazines, including for a long time for “The Artwork” and the International Art Forum , as well as for the Swiss Art Bulletin . Since then he has also been active as a freelance journalist and author of numerous articles on art history and theory for catalogs of international museums, galleries and artists.

From 1988 to 2015 he was a lecturer and honorary professor for art history and the history of contemporary art at the Art Academy in Münster , as well as teaching assignments at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and the Art Academy in Mainz.

From 1993 to 2000 he was managing director of the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen , Düsseldorf. From 2000 to 2005 he was founding director of the Arp-Museum Rolandseck in Remagen near Bonn. From 2005 to 2009 he was an advisor to the Ministry of Finance in Rhineland-Palatinate on architectural issues - renovation of Hambach Castle, development of Eltzer Höfe, castles in the Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage ...; Project manager for the development of a private art museum and cultural center in Ljubljana , Slovenia (Lah Art Collection), active as a freelance curator.

From 2009 to 2013 he was artistic director of the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg .

Raimund Stecker has been a lecturer for art studies at the University of Fine Arts in Essen since 2015 and has been professor for art studies there since 2016 .

He is also a member of numerous committees, including a. in juries of Art Cologne , of ECCE (European Center for creative economy) and since 2006 in the advisory board for the UNESCO World Heritage Middle Rhine Valley.
