history

The reason for the foundation of the association in 1906 by Pastor Friedrich Riewerts was the preservation of Christian Peter Hansen's estate and his Old Frisian House . The first fundamental steps were therefore the acquisition of the house in 1907 and its opening as a museum. In the following year, the association acquired another captain's house in the immediate vicinity and set it up as a Sylt local history museum with the exhibits collected by Christian Peter Hansen. In 1928 the association expanded by taking over the maintenance of the Denghoog Stone Age grave . The Vogelkoje Kampen nature reserve was prepared by Sölring Foriining from 1985 to 1988 and has been operated as a nature trail by the association ever since. Today the four institutions under the name of Old Frisian House since 1640, Sylt Museum, Denghoog Stone Age Grave and Vogelkoje Kampen Nature Path form the four Sölring Museums.

In addition, Sölring Foriining has been looking after the nature reserves North Sylt , Vogelkoje Kampen, Nielönn , the dune landscape on the Rote Kliff , Baakdeel and Rantumer dunes as well as the two FFH areas coastal landscape Sylt-Ost and the dune and heathland landscape north-east since the late 1970s. and Central Sylt. Coastal protection was included in the association's statutes in 1968. In addition, the association has set itself the task of preserving and promoting the language of Sylt Frisian with the Sölring dialect , so that Sölring Foriining has been running language courses since 1979 and has established Sölring lessons at Sylt schools and kindergartens since 1984.
