Sören Auer (* 1975 in Dresden ) is a German computer scientist . He has been Professor of Data Science and Digital Libraries at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover and Director of the Technical Information Library (TIB) in Hanover since 2017 .

Life

Sören Auer studied mathematics and computer science in Dresden , Hagen and Yekaterinburg . In 2006 he was in computer science with a dissertation on the topic " Towards Agile Knowledge Engineering Methodology, Concepts and Applications " at the University of Leipzig to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. From 2006 to 2008 he worked in the database research group at the University of Pennsylvania . In 2008 he founded the AKSW ("Agile Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web") research group at the University of Leipzig, with a focus on Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web , which he headed until 2013. 2013 he accepted a call to the Department for Enterprise Information Systems at the University of Bonn and conducted simultaneously a department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS). In 2017 he was appointed Professor for Data Science & Digital Libraries at Leibniz University Hannover and appointed Director of the Technical Information Library.

Research priorities

Sören Auer researches semantic web technologies , knowledge engineering , software engineering as well as databases and information systems . He led several large collaborative research projects , such as the EU H2020 flagship project BigDataEurope . He is a co-founder of numerous important research and community projects such as the DBpedia semantification project , the OpenCourseWare authoring platform SlideWiki.org or the geodata integration platform LinkedGeoData. He is an expert on industry, the European Commission, the W3C and board member of the Open Knowledge Foundation .
