Sønderhav ( German Süderhaff ) is a village on the Jutland peninsula in Denmark on the Flensburg Fjord . Postally it belongs to Kruså ( Krusau ) 6 km away , it is part of the municipality (Danish: Sogn ) Holbøl , which in turn belongs to the greater municipality of Aabenraa since the municipal reform in 2007 . The village has less than 200 inhabitants and therefore does not count as a city in Danish terms.
In front of Sønderhav are the two Okseøer (Ox Islands) in the Flensburg Fjord, of which the larger one ( Store Okseø ) is inhabited. There is currently no ferry connection to get to the islands.
The hot dog stall Annie's kiosk right on the beach with a view of the two islands and the German cities of Flensburg and Glücksburg on the other bank of the fjord is well known. The shop gave the place the joking nickname Hot Dog Havn among locals and is a popular meeting place for bikers from both Denmark and Germany. This results from the scenic surroundings and the location near the German-Danish border.
Hotel Sønderhav was in the immediate vicinity . The building erected after the storm surge of 1872 replaced an inn from the 18th century. In February 2012 it was destroyed by fire.
The Gendarmstien , a former border route on which Danish gendarmes patrolled from 1920 to 1958, runs through Sønderhav . There are good hiking opportunities in the surrounding forests such as Sønderhaver Forest .
