Søren Larsen (born September 6, 1981 in Køge , Denmark ) is a former Danish football player . In German-speaking countries he was active for FC Schalke 04 and MSV Duisburg .
Career history
After starting his career in his Danish homeland, Larsen played for the Swedish club Djurgårdens IF until 2005 . In summer 2005 he moved to FC Schalke 04 for around 2.3 million euros . There was a heated dispute between the Swedish club and Schalke about his transfer fee, as his contract had a fixed transfer fee of around 1.1 million euros.
He scored six goals in his first five internationals for Denmark . Larsen has therefore been considered the “most effective Danish striker” for almost 100 years.
At FC Schalke 04, the striker scored ten goals in 30 Bundesliga games in his first season ; Larsen celebrated his first "double" for Schalke on February 11, 2006 in a 7-4 home win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . He also contributed two goals in the European Cup games of the 2005/06 season against AC Milan and US Palermo .
A partial tear of the cruciate ligament at the beginning of the 2006/07 Bundesliga season threw the Dane far back. Overall, he only came to eleven mostly short missions during the entire season. He was never in the starting line-up and never scored a goal. He celebrated his only success in the UEFA Cup home game against French club AS Nancy when he scored the goal of the day with a header shortly before the end of the encounter.
On July 18, 2008, he moved for a transfer fee of three million euros to the French first division club FC Toulouse , after he had not gotten beyond a reserve role at FC Schalke 04.
In August 2009 Larsen moved back to Germany on loan to the second division MSV Duisburg for a year . From November, however, he was out of action for almost six months due to an injury. After returning to Toulouse for the 2010/11 season, but only playing twice, he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the winter transfer window .
On July 14, 2011, Larsen was presented as a new addition to the Danish first division club Aarhus GF . Between 2011 and 2014, Larsen was regularly used as a forward for Aarhus. He scored a total of 17 goals in 61 league games for the Danes.
In February 2014, Larsen announced his retirement due to injury.
