Sørum is a former Norwegian municipality in Viken east of Oslo. It was first formed in 1837 when the secular administrative districts were aligned with the ecclesiastical districts. On January 1, 1908, an uninhabited part of the Ullensaker municipality was slammed. On January 1, 1962, a new municipality of Sørum was formed from the previous municipalities of Sørum and Blaker.

On January 1, 2020, Sørum became part of the newly established municipality of Lillestrøm .

The former coat of arms is described as a five-petalled red rose on a gold background . The rose is the old noble coat of arms of the Sudreims family, one of the most powerful noble families in the Middle Ages. At that time, this family was the largest landowner in the district and had its headquarters in Sudeimr, at times the only barony in Romerike. Sudeimr was in what is now Sørum Municipality and its name was later changed to Sørum.

One of the oldest dugout canoes was found in the Glomma River near Sørumsand , dating from around 300 BC. Another was recovered in Siljan in Telemarken. It is called Sørumbåten .
