Suleyman Sani Axundov (born October 3, 1875 in Shushi , † March 29, 1939 in Baku ) was an Azerbaijani playwright , journalist , writer , children's book author and educator. He chose the pseudonym Sani ( Azerbaijani the second ) to avoid confusion with Mirzə Fətəli Axundov .

Life

Axundov was born in Shusha on October 3, 1875. He lost his father in childhood and grew up with his uncle Safarali Valibayov. After studying in the Gori teacher training college from 1885-1894, Axundov became a teacher and devoted himself to education and journalism.

Suleyman Sani Axundov was invited to Baku in 1906 and took part in the 1st Congress of Azerbaijani Teachers. He worked as head of the education department of Karabakh Province from 1920-1921 and as headmaster in Baku from 1922-1930. In 1922 he was elected the first chairman of the Union of Azerbaijani Poets. In 1932 he was awarded the title of working hero for his literary and educational activities .

From 1921 to 1930 he was a member of the Baku City Council, a candidate for the Baku Executive Committee and a member of the Azerbaijan Central Executive Committee. He is the author of the textbook the second year . Süleyman Sani Axundov died on March 29, 1939 at the age of 63.

His first literary work was the comedy Greedy . In this comedy he tried to ridicule the outdated habits and traditions, to show the curmudgeon.


His comedies Dibdat bay , Turkish Union , which he wrote in 1907, were rated as political and social issues in the theater of Azerbaijan. He is the author of the plays Lachın yuvası , From Darkness to Light , Shakhsenem and Gülperi , Bliss with Hard Work , Molla Nasreddin in Baku , Love and Vengeance and others.
