Süreyya Serdengeçti

Süreyya Serdengeçti (* 1952 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a Turkish economist and former head of the Turkish Central Bank .

Life

After finishing school in Istanbul, he studied economics at the Technical University of the Middle East in Ankara and obtained his bachelor's degree in 1979. From 1984 to 1986 he attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville , Tennessee , USA and then received a master's degree in economics.

Serdengeçri worked for the Central Bank of Turkey from 1980. First he worked in the debt section. In 1994 he became press spokesman and general assistant for foreign policy, responsible for balance of payments and international agencies. His appointment as the 20th head of the central bank was made by the coalition government on March 14, 2001 .

Serdengeçti's term ended on March 13, 2006 ; he handed the post over to Durmuş Yılmaz .
