The locomotives of the SŽD series ТГМ23 (German transcription TGM 23 ) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives with diesel-hydraulic power transmission primarily for shunting services . They were developed as a further development of the ТГМ1 and ТГМ21 and are among the most widely produced shunting locomotives of the SŽD.

history

The first experimental diesel locomotive, designated ТГМ23.001 , was built in 1960 by the Murom diesel locomotive factory. The new locomotive differed from its predecessors ( ТГМ1 and ТГМ21 ), from which it adopted the basic structure, with a significant number of changes in equipment.

In the course of delivery, significant changes were made to the design, which the various indices of the series reflect.

Modifications

ТГМ23А

This modification differed from the basic version by a modernized diesel engine and the construction of the fluid transmission . From 1969 to 1973 four locomotives of the series were delivered.

ТГМ23Б

Thyssen Bandstahl AG (formerly Borsig Lok 9) locomotive type TGM23B at Berlin-Tegel station , 1986

This modification differed from the previous versions by the less powerful diesel engine, which was taken over from the ТГМ1 . It also had a softer spring suspension and a number of changes in the cooling system. The fluid transmission was like the previous versions. When the locomotive was delivered, the construction of the frame was changed. The locomotives of the series ТГМ23Б ( TGM23B ) were delivered from 1973 to 1985, about 3,400 units were built.

As part of a compensation business for the extensive deliveries of products to the USSR in 1981 and 1983, two of these machines arrived at the plant railway of Borsig -Werke to Berlin-Tegel . The locomotives were no longer used from October 1989 and were handed over to the Reichsbahn, which, however, no longer used them in regular operation. Both locomotives were scrapped in the BW Wustermark in the early 1990s.

ТГМ23B

This modification differed from the original version by the diesel engine, the generator and the battery. The ТГМ23B ( TGM23W ) series locomotives were built from 1982 to 1991. In 1985 an experimental version of the diesel locomotive with a fluid transmission was delivered, in which the two converters were driven by turbine wheels that were arranged on a shaft. A total of 2,667 copies were made.

ТГМ23Д

This modification is a further development of the ТГМ23B ( TGM23W ), the delivery happened in large numbers up to 1991. A fluid transmission was used on the diesel locomotive, which enabled a particularly low continuous speed and a high tractive force when starting, properties that are particularly favorable for shunting and when Moving out service on industrial railways are. The driver's cab can be controlled from both sides of the journey and has good sound insulation. At the beginning of delivery, the locomotives had an operating weight of 48 t (as with their predecessors ТГМ23B ( TGM23W )), from inventory number 212 the locomotives had an operating weight of 44 t (as with the ТГМ23Б ( TGM23B )). In the past, the different versions were therefore referred to as ТГМ23Д48 ( TGM23D48 ) and ТГМ23Д44 ( TGM23D44 ). With their lower weight, the locomotives have been manufactured in smaller numbers to this day. So in February 2014 the diesel locomotive with the inventory number 0523 was created for the KTZ .

construction

The body of all diesel locomotives of the series ТГМ23 ( TGM23 ) was designed with a larger front and a small rear porch and a driver's cab between them. The frame of the locomotive is supported on the wheel bearings via an individual spring suspension. In the original version , the spring suspension had no compensation, in the ТГМ23B ( TGM23W ) and ТГМ23Д ( TGM23D ) the spring suspension was provided with a compensation. The softness of the spring suspension was determined by the number of layers of the leaf springs ; the type of spring suspension varied depending on the modification of the locomotive. In the last few years of delivery of the ТГМ23 ( TGM23 ), the rear part of the chassis was fundamentally changed.

Depending on the modification, the following diesel engines were used in the diesel locomotives;

  • 1Д12Н-500 ( 1D12N-500 ) with gas turbine supercharging on the ТГМ23 ( TGM23 ) with an output of 368 kW (500 hp);
  • 1Д12Н-500M ( 1D12N-500M ) with a higher supercharging pressure ;
  • 1Д12-400 ( 1D12-400 ) in the ТГМ23Б ( TGM23B ) with an output of 294 kW (400 PS);
  • 1Д12-400Б ( 1Д12-400B ) for the ТГМ23B ( TGM23W ) and the ТГМ23Д ( TGM23D ).

The diesel engine was controlled by a pneumatic drive from the engineer's cab, a type of control that was already common on the ТГМ1 . The torque of the diesel engine was passed on to the fluid transmission with the designation УГП 350-500 ( UGP 300-500 ) of the Murom-Werke and a combined reversing or stepped transmission to the axle drive. In the shunting gear, the torque was adjusted to the corresponding speed via four gearwheels, arranged in the same housing, in the long-distance gear, it was passed on from the output shaft of the fluid transmission directly to the shafts of the axle drives.

In the course of delivery, a number of minor changes were made to the design of the ТГМ23 ( TGM23 ). The preheater for the cooling water circuit for starting during the cold season and for heating the driver's cab when the engine was switched off was relocated from the space under the driver's cab to the small front structure, and the gear ratios of the gearboxes were changed, among other things

The locomotives had additional equipment such as snow plows, devices for the automated lubrication of the drive wheels, the KLUB-U systems (version P and UP) and train radio .

Technical specifications

The power of the diesel engines is between 294 kW (400 PS) and 368 kW (500 PS). The maximum speed in the shunting gear is 30 km / h, in the route gear 60 km / h. The service weight is 44 t - 48 t, depending on the diesel engine type, 54 t with additional ballast.
