The locomotive of the class Т ) М5 (German transcription TEM5) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) is a wide-gauge diesel locomotive , which was developed as a further development of the SŽD class ТЭМ2 . The locomotive is a special form of this series with the diesel engine 3А-6Д49 and other bogies analogous to the SŽD series ТЭ109 and the SŽD series 2ТЭ116 . The main equipment of this series is the same as those of the SŽD series ТЭМ2.

history

The ТЭМ2 series locomotive , with over 6,000 machines built, was a very successful SŽD locomotive design . Nevertheless, the Bryansk locomotive factory was considering increasing the economy of the locomotive and at the same time equipping the machine with a different diesel generator unit. As early as 1966, the plant carried out a project for the use of diesel locomotives with the 6Д70 diesel engine , the GP-319Б generator and the -107 traction motors . Then the plant performed a variant of the project with the diesel engine 3А-6Д49 , the generator ГП-319Б and the traction motors ЭД-107 . On the basis of this project, the plant produced the first diesel locomotive with the designation ТЭМ5 in 1971 . For the diesel locomotive, the bogies of the SŽD series ТЭ109 were used, which were used at the same time for the locomotives of the series 2ТЭ116 and 2ТЭ10В . The transmission ratio of the gearbox on the ТЭМ5 was 15:68, which corresponds to 1: 4.53. The total wheelbase of the locomotive decreased from 12800 mm to 12670 mm compared to the ТЭМ2 .

The 3А-6Д49 diesel engine is an eight-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with supercharging and average injection of fuel. The motor is a square hub , the cylinder diameter and piston stroke are 260 mm. The maximum power of the engine is 1200 HP at 1000 rpm. The consumption of fuel at maximum power is 150 - 162 g / PSh, the weight of the diesel engine is 9000 kg.

The ГП-319Б traction generator designed as a DC machine with a nominal output of 780 kW was designed as an eight-pole machine with normal excitation and self -ventilation . The voltage of the generator is 430/840 V, the current 1815/930 A, the rotation of the armature shaft 1000 / min, the weight of the generator is 4300 kg. The ЭД-107 traction drive motors have the following nominal parameters; Power 112 kW, voltage 215 V, current 605 A. The system of excitation of the traction generator was carried out like the locomotives of the series ТЭ10 and M62 .

The traction drive motors could, apart from full excitation, also operate at 48% and 25% excitation. The diesel locomotives of the series ТЭМ5 are also equipped with a two-engine unit of the designation А-708 , this consists of the exciter В-607 and the auxiliary generator МВГ-25/11 . This controls the excitation of the traction generator and takes over the charging of the accumulator battery . An electrically driven compressor is set up to generate the compressed air.

The starting tractive effort of the diesel locomotive is 210 kN at a speed of 11.5 km / h. The design speed is 100 km / h. The service weight is 126 t, the fuel supply is 5440 l, sand 2000 kg, water 600 l and oil 400 l. The diesel locomotive with inventory number 002 was examined in 1970 by the All-Russian Research Institute for Rail Transport . The diesel locomotive with the inventory number 013 passed the power-thermal test on the test ring in Shcherbinka from April to September 1974 . This test showed that the consumption of fuel at nominal power was 165 g / PSh, the efficiency of the generator ГП-319Б was 2% lower than that of the ТЭМ2 . The output of energy for its own needs was significantly higher than that of the original locomotive . The 3А-6Д49 diesel engine was said to be insufficiently resistant when idling; sooting exhaust gases appeared on transition from idling to partial or full load, a phenomenon that was well known in locomotives of the V-300 family .
