SABAM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Belgian association of authors, composers and publishers , just SABAM ( French .- Dutch . Acronym for Société d'Auteurs Belge - Belgian Auteurs Maatschappij ) is originally from 1922 authors founded Belgian association for the protection of those rights . The organization is based in Brussels .

Later on, artists from other categories joined SABAM with the same goal, such as composers , songwriters , screenwriters , photographers , directors , actors and publishers .

A test by the investigative and satirical Flemish television magazine Basta showed that the company collects fees for absolutely all reported titles, regardless of whether they have received the rights for them or not. This was tested twice with fictional artists and song titles from inscriptions on a hand dryer as well as from food and kitchen appliances from the supermarket.

In November 2012, a series of benefit concerts in front of the gates of the Ford factory in Genk, which is threatened with closure, had to be canceled by the organizing unions because SABAM did not want to forego performance fees.
