The Sportgemeinschaft Langenfeld 92/72 eV ( SGL ) is a non-profit mass sports club from Langenfeld (Rhineland) , which was created in 1981 from a merger of the “Immigrather Turnverein” (ITV) and the “Sportfreunde Langenfeld” (SFL). The club currently has over 9,000 members (as of 2010) and is therefore one of the largest popular sports clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History of the club

The club history of the Langenfeld sports community begins in 1892. In that year the Immigrather Gymnastics Club was founded, with a focus on gymnastics and athletics. The first gym of the ITV was inaugurated in 1926 on Turnerstrasse. In 1957, the ITV moved to the gym on Fahler Weg due to an exchange of land with the city, which was equipped with an outdoor sports facility, among other things. In 1972 the Sportfreunde Langenfeld was founded, the club focused on handball , athletics and gymnastics . In 1981 the two clubs merged to form the Langenfeld Sports Association, which in 1983 joined the Freiburg Circle , an association of the largest German sports clubs. In 1990 the center for health sports on Bachstrasse was put into operation. In 1997/1998 the planning, construction and commissioning of the club's own exercise center at the Langfort amusement park took place next to the municipal indoor pool with 2200 m² of usable space. In 1999 and 2000 the Langfort Movement Center (BZL) was expanded from 2200 to 3000 m². The health studio was expanded and a new training hall was built. Furthermore, in 2000 the sports hall on Fahler Weg was renamed "Carl Voss Anlage" (CVA) in honor of the founder of the athletics department Carl Voss. In 2003, SGL took over the management of the baths of the city of Langenfeld, for this reason the entire entrance area of the BZL was rebuilt and converted into a central entrance to the exercise center and the swimming pool. In the following year, 2004, three new sports halls were built to improve the sports facilities in the studio and leisure sports area. These halls were all built on the premises of the swimming pool. In 2005, around 800 members of the GSV Wiescheid were integrated into SG Langenfeld and taken over. In 2008 the association was reorganized by changing and expanding the statutes and electing a presidium . The previous board was replaced and replaced by a new board elected by the presidium.

Membership development

Since it was founded in 1981, the Langenfeld sports community has been able to steadily increase its membership, so in 1981 the SG Langenfeld had a total of 1984 members, more than half of whom came from children's and youth sports. The SGL achieved the greatest increase in the number of members within one year from 2003 to 2004, during which time the number of association members rose from 7,300 to 8,600. This strong growth is due to the fact that SGL was able to expand its range of products in 2004 by adding three new halls. The takeover of the operating company for the Langenfelder Stadtbad is one reason for this development. At the end of 2009, the Langenfeld sports community had a total of 9,145 club members, including around 3,000 children, 4,500 adults and 1,600 senior citizens.

Club structure

All effective organs of the association are determined and elected by a general assembly. 4 assessors , the auditor and the council of elders are determined. Which is elected by the members of Assembly Presidium , which in turn elects the board of the association. The current board (status 2010) is made up of Karl-Heinz Bruser and his deputy Martin Bock. The main committee of the association consists of the department heads, the board of directors, the assessors, the youth chairman and the presidium with the council of elders as an advisory body.

SG Langenfeld currently has 25 different departments: ballet academy, basketball, bowling, popular sports, unicycle hockey, fencing, fitness and health sports, handball, inline skating / hockey (SG Langenfeld Devils), jazz dance, karate (Goju-Ryu and Yuishinkan ), Ju-jutsu, children's and youth sports, athletics, competitive gymnastics, rehab sports, gymnastics, senior table tennis, skiing, square dance, dance, trampoline gymnastics, volleyball.

Health studio

The health studio of the Sportgemeinschaft Langenfeld is divided into two areas, an endurance room with various cardio equipment and a room in which muscle training with equipment and free weights is possible. The SGL health studio has received several certificates, such as the TÜV seal, several RAL seals of approval (1998; 2000; 2002), an award from the then state sports association in 1998 and a certificate from the German Olympic Sports Association in 2009.

PhysioSport

The Langfort Movement Center has its own physiotherapy , where various techniques are offered to promote and maintain motor skills as well as pain relief. The physiotherapy practice works closely with the SG Langenfeld health studio and the swimming pool, so the physiotherapy practice is able to offer equipment-supported gymnastics training and functional gymnastics in the exercise pool .

Movement kindergarten and sports kindergarten at SGL

The association's own exercise kindergarten "Klettermaxe" has set itself the task of training and encouraging children to exercise at an early age. The children have the opportunity to take part in sports courses offered by SGL. The age of the children who attend the movement kindergarten is between 2.5 and 6 years. On June 14, 2008, the “Klettermaxe” exercise kindergarten was certified as a “Recognized exercise kindergarten” by the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition to the “Klettermaxe” kindergarten, there is also the sports kindergarten (SpoKi), which was established by SG Langenfeld. The sports kindergarten has its seat - like the "climber" - in the Carl Voss facility, in a specially designed room. The SGL sports kindergarten prepares children for kindergarten and is intended for small children aged between 18 months and 3 years. Thanks to the direct use of the hall, the “SpoKi” can offer the children a sports unit every day.

Club-owned sports facilities

In addition to the six halls in the Langfort exercise center, the SG Langenfeld has another sports facility, the Carl Voss facility. The Carl Voss facility has an outdoor facility with a large lawn that is used for the shot put , javelin and discus throw . There is also a high jump and pole vault facility as well as a tartan track and a long jump pit on the CVA site. Behind the lawn is a children's playground, which is used by the exercise kindergarten and the sports kindergarten. Inside the CVA there is a large sports hall and several rooms that are used by the “Klettermaxe” kindergarten, the sports kindergarten and the children's play groups. The fencing department of SGL has its own fencing hall in the Carl Voss facility, where competitions are held. In addition to these halls owned by SGL, the Langenfeld sports community uses a total of 14 other municipal halls in the Langenfeld area (Rhineland) .

swimming pool

The Langenfelder Stadtbad is managed by the Langenfeld Sports Association, as it has taken over the management of the pool. SGL organizes the sale of swimming pool tickets and provides its own employees in addition to the municipal swimming pool employees. The maintenance of the pool also falls within the remit of the SG Langenfeld.
