The SIG Sauer P228 is a compact self-loading pistol made by the weapons manufacturer SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. KG in 9 mm Luger caliber .

Technology and use

It was developed from the SIG Sauer P226 model and introduced by the US armed forces under the designation M11. It differs from the P226 in that it has a shorter barrel and slide and is less weight.

The SIG Sauer P229 is a model with a modified slide. The slide of the P228 is made of forged carbon steel, while the P229 has a stainless steel lock. The P229 has the same dimensions as the P228, but is a little heavier. The P229 is also available in calibers .357 SIG and .40 S&W in addition to 9 × 19 mm .
