SIG SP 2022 is a semi-automatic pistol from SIG Sauer . It is a further development of the SIG SP 2009 , which was developed and manufactured by the Swiss Industrial Association (SIG for short). The SIG SP 2022 was equipped with a Picatinny rail instead of an adapter rail .

The SP-20XX models are the first weapons manufactured by SIG with polymer components; they are manufactured for both sporting and professional use.
In 2003, the French Gendarmerie and Police nationale introduced the SIG SP 2022, replacing the Beretta 92 G and a few other pistols. More than 300,000 SIG SP 2022 have been ordered by France. The SIG Pro 2022 variant is used by the Drug Enforcement Administration .
In 2014, it was announced that the Colombian Federal Police had received 100,000 SIG SP 2022 from the United States Armed Forces . Weapons from German production were also supplied. However, research revealed that the federal government had not received any approval for this export . This is particularly spicy as the Colombian Federal Police are accused of human rights violations . SIG Sauer was thereupon placed an export ban. Since July 1, 2014, all applications for export licenses are said to have been stopped in order to check whether the company can be considered a reliable exporter.
