The SIG Sauer Mosquito is a small caliber pistol . It was developed by SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. KG and is also produced by this company. It is a self-loading pistol in caliber .22 lfB . The large-caliber pistol P226 from SIG Sauer serves as a model .
technology
Due to the smaller potash size of the Mosquito, the dimensions are around 90 percent compared to the larger model in caliber 9 × 19 mm . The slide is made of die-cast zinc. As with modern utility pistols, the frame / handle is usually made of plastic, which means that the weapon is lightweight. Heavily stressed parts such as the barrel are made of steel. Unlike the original, the pistol has a spring-mass lock. This is common with small caliber pistols. As a result, the barrel can be made fixed and is not movable as with large-caliber pistols. The result is an excellent inherent precision of the weapon. Standard cartridges as well as high-velocity cartridges can be fired using two (locking) closing springs with different spring characteristics. There is a Picatinny rail under the barrel for various attachments . As an accessory in addition to a (long) removable drive is a bridge assembly (see figure in the article Sport Pistol ), a point-sign- red dot sight and a run with a thread available for a silencer.
Model variants
Six different models are offered. The standard model is the "Mosquito" and serves as the basis for the five other models. Two different run lengths are possible thanks to an interchangeable system. This results in different weights of the different models. The "Mosquito SD" model enables a silencer to be attached thanks to a barrel with a thread at the front end . Furthermore, different color combinations of slide and handle are available, which results in the other model variants.
