Lists on the subject

The SIG Sauer P227 is a self-loading pistol from SIG Sauer that was designed and produced in the USA. It was launched on the market in 2013. The SIG Sauer P227 supplemented the SIG Sauer portfolio in Exeter (NH) with a .45 ACP handgun with a double-row magazine. The introduction took place together with the P224.

background

The P227 is similar in many ways to the P220 in .45 ACP that SIG Sauer launched in 1975. It uses the same system from SIG Sauer with a clamping and pressure point trigger, a double-row bar magazine to increase the magazine capacity and is only slightly larger. As with most self-loading pistols, the breech remains open after the last cartridge has been fired. The release lever allows the tap to be released safely. The weapon can be dismantled by removing the magazine, blocking the slide in the open position and turning the dismantling lever. The slide, barrel and recoil spring can then be pushed forward from the handle.

To improve ergonomics, the P227 is also equipped with a one-piece 'E2' grip plate that includes the handle instead of the conventional two side-mounted grip plates of the P220. It has a magazine capacity of ten cartridges plus an eleventh in the chamber, which is an improvement over the seven or eight cartridges that the P220 can hold with its single-row magazine. SIG also offers magazines with a capacity of fourteen cartridges, which come standard with some models. The P227 has both a cocked trigger and a pressure point trigger, so that a trigger resistance of 44.5 N must be overcome when firing a shot with the cock released, and almost 20 N with the cock cocked. The weapon is equipped with a Picatinny rail and a three-point sight as standard, but can also be equipped with a SIGLITE night sight. The handle is made of anodized and nitrided aluminum, the slide is made of forged steel.

variants

Since February 2017, eight P227 models have been offered on the SIG Sauer website:

  • The P227 Nitron Full Size is equipped with a 4.4 inch (112 mm) long barrel, polymer grip plates and the usual ten-round magazine
  • The P227 Nitron Carry model has a barrel length of only 3.9 inches (99 mm), comes with two ten-round magazines and a smooth surface for concealed carrying.
  • The P227 SAS Gen 2 Carry model is equipped with a trigger reset, also has a barrel length of 3.9 inches (99 mm) and is supplied with two ten-length magazines, but without a Picatinny rail.
  • The P227 TACOPS Full Size with a barrel length of 4.4 inches (112 mm) has a handle with beavertail, G10 grips, TRUGLO front sight and SIGLITE rear sight, grooved gripping surfaces at the front end of the slide, an extended magazine well and is equipped with four fourteen-round Magazines delivered
  • The P227 Tactical Full Size is equipped with a trigger reset and a 5.1 inch barrel (130 mm) that is threaded for mounting a silencer . The weapon comes with a SIGLITE night sight and was delivered with a ten-round and a fourteen-round magazine. In newer models, due to problems in feeding the ammunition, the fourteen-round magazine was dispensed with in favor of a second ten-round magazine, whereby the models can be differentiated by changing the model numbers.
  • The P227 Flat Dark Earth has a “Flat Dark Earth” coating on the slide and handle, a barrel length of 4.4 inches (112 mm) and a ten-shot standard magazine.
  • The P227 Equinox comes with a polished slide with nickel-plated controls, a 4.4 inch long (112 mm) barrel, and a ten-round magazine.
  • The P227 Enhanced Elite is equipped with a 4.4 inch (112 mm) long barrel, handle with beavertail, corrugated gripping surfaces at the front end of the slide, trigger reset, one-piece ergonomic handle and ten-round magazine.

commitment

In 2013, the SIG Sauer P227 Full Size Nitron was introduced to the Indiana State Police as a service weapon. The contract provided for the delivery of over 5,000 weapons by the end of 2014.

After extensive testing of .45 ACP weapons from various manufacturers, the Pennsylvania State Police also selected the P227 as their service weapon in 2014 .
