The SJ T45 series was a Swedish diesel-electric locomotive , which was produced by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) 1971-1972 in a total of five copies.

history

The construction of the locomotives was an attempt by ASEA to break the dominance of Nydqvist och Holm (Nohab) in the Swedish diesel locomotive market. The locomotives were constructed with bogies and parts of the electrical equipment of the Rc locomotive . The V16A diesel engine was designed by SEMT Pielstick and manufactured under license from Hedemora Verkstäder , while the Norwegian Thunes mekaniske Verksted built the other mechanical parts. The locomotives were equipped with multiple controls.

The five locomotives were leased to Statens Järnvägar (SJ) on the basis of a contract concluded in 1969 and were given an orange / white color scheme similar to the Rc series. The locomotives were used on the non-electrified Borlänge – Mora (Siljansbanan) railway from Borlänge to Mora in front of freight and passenger trains.

As early as 1976, SJ gave the locomotives back due to operational safety problems, especially with the diesel engines, which were actually marine diesel engines. Attempts to sell the locomotives abroad were largely unsuccessful and the locomotives ended up as shunting locomotives in various industrial plants. As a result of this experience, ASEA stopped building diesel locomotives.

Sydvaranger DE102

A / S Sydvaranger bought the T45 324 locomotive from ASEA in 1984 for operation on the Kirkenes – Bjørnevatn railway line and named it DE102 . The locomotive was stationed in Kirkenes and rarely used and was scrapped in Björnvatn in 1998 .
