Hofors is a place in the Swedish province of Gävleborgs län and historical province of Gästrikland . It is located on Europastraße 16 (formerly riksväg 80), 54 kilometers west of Gävle and 38 kilometers east of Falun . Hofors is the capital of the municipality of the same name .

Hofors is a traditional industrial place. At the beginning of the 17th century, a steelworks was founded in Hofors , which processed the iron ore from the nearby Stillgruvan and Storgruvan mines . Today one of the most modern steel works in the world with a production volume of 400,000 tons of special steel is located in Hofors. Ovako Steel AB is the town's largest employer.
