Torsåker is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborgs län and in the historical province of Gästrikland .
location
Torsåker belongs to the municipality of Hofors . The place is about 40 km as the crow flies west-southwest of the provincial capital Gävle and 10 km east of the community center Hofors . Torsåker is the second largest town in the municipality after its central town Hofors.
The place has a station on the railway line from Mjölby via Örebro to Storvik (route km 311), which was completed on this section as an original part of the Norra stambanan and a total of 1900. The route plays an important role, especially in north-south freight traffic, bypassing Stockholm over a wide area , which is why it is called Güterbogen durch Bergslagen ( Swedish Godsstråket, genom Bergslagen ), but it also has passenger traffic.
To the west, Torsåker is bypassed by Reichsstraße 68, which connects a little to the north with Reichsstraße 80 Gävle - Falun - Rättvik and runs south via Avesta , Fagersta and Lindesberg to Örebro.

history
The local church goes back to a building erected in 1200, but was considerably rebuilt and expanded in 1754–1758. Two rune stones from around 1000 can also be seen in the church today .
From the second half of the 14th century, Torsåker was the center of a mining area known as Gästriklands bergslag or Torsåkers bergslag . The certificate of privilege was issued in 1374 by Albrecht von Mecklenburg , who was also King of Sweden from 1364 to 1389 . In 1542 there were two ironworks in Torsåker . Mining and metallurgy experienced their decline in the course of the 19th century, when the mostly small businesses in the area succumbed to foreign competition. The last hammer forge in Torsåker closed in 1890. During this time, sawmills took on the role of the main economic factor.
Torsåker was an independent rural community until 1971 when it was attached to Hofors.
