Clemens Kickh

Clemens Kickh OSB (born October 23, 1827 in Vienna ; † August 7, 1913 there ; actually Rudolf Josef Kickh ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic theologian , court preacher and schoolmaster .

Life

Kickh came after the visit of the Vienna Schottengymnasiums in the 1845 Scottish Abbey one. He studied theology at the University of Vienna and was ordained a priest in 1850 . From 1850 to 1855 he was prefect of the choir boys, he also worked as a preacher in the monastery parish and the parish of Gumpendorf . After studying philology at the University of Vienna, he was supplent at the Schottengymnasium from 1856 and professor of Latin and German from 1861 to 1895 . In 1859 he received his doctorate in theology . In 1861 he was appointed court preacher to the Vienna court orchestra, succeeding Othmar Helferstorfer , who was elected abbot of the Schottenstift ; he held this office for 40 years until 1901, when he was inherited by his brother Cölestin Wolfsgruber .

Kickh was one of those educated Christian humanists who left their mark on the old Austrian humanistic grammar school. His close friends included the painters Joseph von Führich and August Wörndle von Adelsfried . In 1866 Kickh was dean of the theological doctoral college at the University of Vienna. In 1881 he received the Knight's Cross, in 1900 the Commander's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order .
