Albert Huebl

Albert Hübl OSB (born July 21, 1867 in Vienna ; † December 24, 1931 there ; actually Karl Hübl ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic historian .

Life

Hübl, the son of a Simmeringer innkeeper, came after the visit of the Vienna Schottengymnasiums 1885 in the Scots Abbey and graduated from 1886 to 1890 the study of theology at the University of Vienna . After his ordination in 1890, he also studied history and geography until 1893 . From 1895 he began to teach at the Schottengymnasium. In addition, he was entrusted with the duties of librarian (from 1901), custodian of the coin cabinet (from 1902) and later archivist in the monastery . The still authoritative printed catalogs of manuscripts , incunabula and the coin collection of the Schottenstift originate from him . In 1919 he was appointed director of the Schottengymnasium and held this position until shortly before his death in 1931.

In addition to his work as a teacher, Hübl published numerous scientific papers. Among other things, he was a board member of the Association for History of the City of Vienna , Vice President of the Austrian Numismatic Society , chairman of the historical section of the Austrian Leo Society and a member of the teaching book commission. In 1922 he became a Councilor , 1927 Councilor appointed. For his services he also received the Golden Cross of Merit with the Crown .
