The SJ Z61 series is a Swedish small diesel locomotive . It was built for Statens Järnvägar (SJ) as one of three different model series from different manufacturers .

history

In the mid-1950s, SJ wanted to develop a new standard shunting locomotive with diesel-hydraulic power transmission to renew the locomotive fleet and had the Z61 series manufactured at Kockums in Malmö in 1957 .

Kockums ordered the major components for the ten locomotives from Germany. The 6-cylinder diesel engine W6V 17.5 / 22A with 217 kW was supplied by MAN . The 3W2D 35 diesel-hydraulic transmission came from Krupp . The locomotives were equipped with multiple traction controls. Due to their top speed of 60 km / h, the locomotives could be entrusted with many tasks, some on main lines. Therefore, they received a compressed air brake and a train heater. This enabled short passenger trains to be heated in the cold season.

When the choice of the new standard series fell on a sample from Kalmar Verkstads AB as the SJ Z65 series , 102 of which were procured between 1961 and 1968, SJ decided in 1970 to modernize the splitter series and incorporate it into the SJ Z67 series .

Whereabouts

Z61 362 was sold to SCA Tooling AB, Munksund, in 1967. From there it came to the museum association Piteå Ångloksklubb , Piteå in 1994 , which passed the locomotive on to Malmbanans Vänner in 1997 .

SJ Z67 (I)

After the conversion with new engines, the Z61 357 to 359 were renamed the Z67 (I) series with the numbers Z67 622 to 624, the 360 to 621 and the 363 to 366 to 626 to 629. The model locomotive was the Z61 360 , which Gmeinder equipped with a Cummins KT1150L diesel engine and a Voith L102 diesel-hydraulic change gearbox in 1978. The remaining eight locomotives were converted in the same way by Hägglund & Söner in 1981 .
