SM UC 61 was a German UC II class submarine . It was in use during the First World War under the leadership of Georg Gerth. After it ran aground south of Calais on the French coast near Wissant , it was demolished by the crew. The wreck of UC 61 is at position 50 ° 53 ′ 29.8 ″  N , 1 ° 39 ′ 42.5 ″  E. Coordinates: 50 ° 53 ′ 29.8 ″  N , 1 ° 39 ′ 42.5 ″  E on the beach .
