The X 2720 series is a single-engine diesel multiple unit operated by the French state railway SNCF . With the twin-engine series X 2700 (RGP2) it counts as RGP1 to the “Rames à grand parcours” (RGP) designated long-distance railcars for long-distance traffic.

history

The 18 originally built vehicles of the series were delivered by De Dietrich and SACM in 1955 and 1956 , they were given the company numbers X 2721 to X 2738. Paul Arzens was responsible for the design . The trains consisting of a railcar and a matching control car (XR 7721 to XR 7738) initially only had the first car class ; the control car had its kitchen. In the original color scheme of light green, cream and gray, which earned them the nickname “Lézards verts” (green lizards), they were reserved for long-distance traffic on the non-electrified routes. The railcar and control car were connected by a bellows . The vertical front sides of the control cars, which differed significantly from those of the railcars, had a central transition door. Often two of these units drove coupled rear to rear so that there was a railcar at both ends of the train.

The X 2720 also came across the border to Germany, e.g. B. 1956 as FT 1101 between Metz and Frankfurt am Main . Gradually they lost the high-quality passenger train services and shared regional tasks in the regions of Auvergne , Lorraine and Rhône-Alpes with the X 2800 series, which was identical in the mechanical part . During renovations between 1972 and 1975, the kitchen compartment was removed or - in the case of the XR 7723–24 and XR 7729–30 - turned into a bar. In addition, the second class of car was introduced, increasing the total number of seats from 112 to 128. All vehicles in the series have been adapted to the livery of the RTG turbotrains and overmolded in the colors sun yellow and gray.

After a decision in 1984 to use the railcars in the newly established TER system, they were fundamentally rebuilt between 1985 and 1992. In the repair shop Bordeaux they were given a new cab. The front was completely redesigned based on the X 2200 series in order to achieve increased safety for the driver. The interior was adapted to the Z2 series .

Between 1999 and 2006, the majority of the X 2720 was parked. The vehicles X 2725 and X 2726 are currently in service with the tourist Gentiane express in the Cantal department . X 2723 went to the museum railway Train Touristique Etretat Caux , X 2731 came to Train Touristique de l'Ardèche Méridionale Viaduc 07 .

X 2770

The almost identical 11 railcars of the X 2770 series (X 2771 to X 2781) were used in air - conditioned three-part units in TEE traffic , which is why they have the TEE paintwork Bordeaux / cream and a three- or four-light peak signal for cross-border traffic received.

After the withdrawal from the TEE services, these vehicles were rebuilt from 1972, largely adapted to the ETG and RTG types and incorporated in two parts into the X 2720 series. The kitchen was removed and a 2nd class area installed; their company numbers changed from X 2739 to X 2749.

description

Each railcar is permanently coupled to a non-powered trailer or control car from the XR 7700 series; a rubber bead transition connects the two car bodies . The vehicles are capable of multiple traction, up to three units can run in a train.

The 52.7 t heavy railcar (48.5 t before the conversion to the TER) is 26.63 m long over buffers , with the 26.05 m long control car the total length is 52.68 m. The output of the twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine of the type MGO V 12 SH from SACM, which is located in the car body behind the driver's cab , is 426 kW. It accelerates the vehicle via a hydromechanical four-speed gearbox up to a top speed of 140 km / h.

The TER version of the railcar has 60 seats, excluding 2nd class. The two-class control car has a 24-seat compartment in the 1st class.
