SN 393 is the modern name for an astronomical event that was observed by the Chinese in 393 AD. The supernova reached an apparent magnitude of approximately −1 mag and was visible for about eight months. The duration of the event suggests that it must be a supernova. The supernova remnant consists largely of plasma and gas. The star had about 15 solar masses before the explosion and this explosion produced an energy of about 1.3 × 10 51 ergs .
