Vernon L. Macklin (born September 25, 1986 in Portsmouth , Virginia ) is an American basketball player . He last played for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA .

Career

Youth and college

Macklin first attended Norcom High School in his hometown of Portsmouth and after three years moved to the Hargrave Military Academy in nearby Chatham . He played for the basketball team at both schools and was named to the McDonald's All American Team in his senior high school year at Hargrave Military Academy . He also took part in the 2006 Nike Hoop Summit in Memphis for youth national teams in the USA and in 2004 at the Youth Development Festival , where he won the bronze medal. He then enrolled at Georgetown University in Washington, DC . There he played for two years with the later NBA players Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert for the Bulldogs , the university's basketball team. In his first year he reached the Final Four with the team and failed there at the Ohio State Buckeyes . After another year, which was less successful, he left Washington and attended the University of Florida . In Gainesville he played two seasons - the first was suspended due to the change - under coach Billy Donovan for the Gators and reached the Elite Eight in his senior year , where they failed at the Butler Bulldogs . He then left university with a bachelor's degree in sociology .

NBA

Detroit Pistons (2011-)

Macklin was selected by the Detroit Pistons in 52nd place in the 2011 NBA draft and only signed his contract in December 2011 due to the lockout . Then, after only 19 games for Detroit, the farm team, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants , was given up. From there he returned after only ten games in April and then completed four more games for the Pistons.
