Football section
Askania Schipkau was founded in 1911 under the name SV Askania Zschipkau . The Lusatians played hardly any role in Brandenburg football until 1945, occasionally they made it to the 1st district class Niederlausitz of the Southeast German Football Association , for example in the 1922/23 season , but they could never prevail against the stronger competition.
In 1945 the club was dissolved and re-established as SG Schipkau . The loose sports group acted in the 1948/49 season for one season in the LL Brandenburg (SBZ) , but had no chance of promotion to the newly founded DS league in the then highest East German league . With the entry of the local lignite mine as a sponsoring company and the activist sports association , the SG subsequently renamed the BSG Aktivist Schipkau , and at times also appeared under the names Aktivist Lauchhammer / Abt. Schipkau and activist Senftenberg / Abt. Schipkau on.
On a sporting level, activist Schipkau rose together with Chemie Döbern in 1957 for the first time in the then fourth-class district league Cottbus , which was held with secured midfield positions until 1964. The best result was the runner-up in 1962, in which the activist Schipkau failed just behind local rivals Chemie Schwarzheide because of the possible promotion to the third-class II. GDR league . In the FDGB Cup in 1957, the Reviermannschaft failed in the qualifying round at Dynamo Dresden , but reached the first main round against Motor Bautzen (1: 3) the following year via progress Neugersdorf .
In the following years, the Brandenburgers acted in the highest Cottbus league again in the seasons 1968/69 and 1989/90, but were almost exclusively active in the district class area.
After the reunification, the association was renamed Askania Schipkau . Since then, Askania has been playing in the local area of southern Brandenburg without exception. The current division is the Südbrandenburg regional league .
