The sports club St. Johannis 07 is a sports club from St. Johannis (Nuremberg) . He is known for his wrestlers .

history

The club was founded in 1906 by workers as the Saxon Athlete Club and joined the Workers' Athlete Association in 1907. After the merger with the Stemmverein Achilles on September 9, 1922, the club was able to establish itself increasingly in wrestling and weightlifting . After the construction of the club's own hall (1928–1929), the range was expanded to include boxes and artistry . After the seizure of power by the Nazi Party in 1933, the association was forcibly dissolved and expropriated.

The re-establishment took place on January 27, 1946. In July 1982 a new sports center was inaugurated. Today the association has 500 members (as of 2005) and offers in addition to rings also bowling , kickboxing , fitness , weight training , gymnastics , aerobics , Zumba and children's gymnastics .

Wrestling Department

Wrestling is the founding sport and most successful division of the club. The 1st wrestling team even belonged to the 1st Bundesliga from 1985 to 1988. Shortly before, Pasquale Passarelli had achieved the greatest single success of a Johannis wrestler. At the 1984 Summer Olympics , he won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman style in bantamweight. In addition to Passarelli's six German championship titles, in 1990 the club again presented Bernhard Rieger, a German master in the Greco-Roman style. The wrestlers are also characterized by good youth work, the climax of which was reaching the German youth team championship in 1988 and repeated in 2006.

As champions in the 2nd Bundesliga South in 2005, the 1st wrestling team was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga Southeast, in which they were able to stay until the end of the 2008 season. After only one year in the 2nd Bundesliga, they were promoted back to the top class of wrestling. In 2012 he was relegated again. With the foundation of not of the German wrestler confederation (DRB) recognized German Ringer League , the club has been playing in 2017 again top-notch in the so-called DRB Bundesliga .

In autumn 2006, the Dresdner Bank and the German Olympic Sports Association awarded SV St. Johannis 07 the “Green Ribbon for exemplary promotion of talent in clubs”.

In January 2007, the city of Nuremberg awarded the title of “Team of the Year” to the Bundesliga wrestlers “Johannis Grizzly's” from SV St. Johannis 07. Since 2009, SV Johannis 07 has been the federal junior training center for the Olympics.
