Sabine Pollak (born September 23, 1960 in Graz ) is an Austrian architect and architectural theorist. She lives and works in Vienna and Linz . Together with Roland Köb, she runs the architectural office Köb & Pollak Architektur in Wolfurt and Vienna. Since 2008 she has headed the Urban Studies department at the Art University Linz . Her work and research focus are in the areas of gender research , urban planning , housing and architectural theory . She also worked as a curator , moderator and organizer.

Life

Sabine Pollak studied architecture from 1978 to 1988 at Graz University of Technology , Innsbruck University and Vienna University of Technology . In 1995 she completed her doctorate at the Vienna University of Technology with a thesis entitled "Programs and strategies in architecture from the Renaissance to deconstructivism" with distinction.

Sabine Pollak has been a partner in the architectural office Köb & Pollak Architektur , Wolfurt and Vienna, together with Roland Köb, since 1995 . From 1989 to 2008 Pollak was an Ao. University professor at the Vienna University of Technology, Housing and Design Department. From 1993 to 2002 she held guest workshops at the Bauhaus University Weimar , at the Politecnico di Milano , at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and was a visiting professor at the University of Michigan , USA. In 2003 the habilitation for the subject “Housing” followed with the thesis “Sleepless. Femininity and the process of emptying space in living ”. In 2005 she was a lecturer at the Art University Linz , in 2006 a lecturer at the University of Salzburg and from 2008 professorial for urban planning at the Art University Linz.

  • BOA 22 - developer competition, 1st prize. 78 new apartments for new ways of living and living. Together with Alexander Schmöger
  • [ro * sa] 22- women's housing project [ro * sa Donaustadt], Vienna 22. 45 apartments for integrative and cross-generational living for women. Cooperative of private employees GPA - WBV Bauträger. Completion 2009.

  • THE OTHER OF THE CITY - Urban research project on a district in Vienna 11. Commissioned by the City of Vienna, 2006 and 2007.
  • Assisted living for senior citizens as a pilot project in Spillern / Lower Austria. 16 residential units and communal facilities. Gebös non-profit housing cooperative , construction started in March 2010.
  • BIO - ARA - biological sewage treatment plant for the metal processing company Collini, Hohenems / Vorarlberg. Completed in 2007.
  • UP TO THE BORDER - Urban study on new settlement structures in the border region of Lower Austria, 2005 and 2006.
  • 1/4 4 - Urban study for a district in Vienna 4. Commissioned by the City of Vienna.
  • TWG - Therapeutic residential community in Ebenfurth / Lower Austria. Housing for therapists and young people as a model experiment. 6 apartments and residential building, completed in 2006.
  • SPANGE - Production hall company Collini, Hohenems 2003. Office building company Collini, Hohenems 2002. Addition of storeys to an existing company building with a suspended tube. House S. - Reconstruction and extension of a residential house from the interwar period House S., Graz Puntigam 2002. House K. - Single-family house House K., Wolfurt / Vorarlberg 2001.
