Sabine von Württemberg (born July 2, 1549 in Mömpelgard , † August 17, 1581 in Rotenburg ) was a princess of Württemberg and by marriage the first Landgravine of Hessen-Kassel .

Life

Sabine was a daughter of Duke Christoph von Württemberg (1515–1568) from his marriage to Anna Maria (1526–1589), daughter of Margrave Georg von Brandenburg-Ansbach .

On February 11, 1566, she married Landgrave Wilhelm IV of Hessen-Kassel in Marburg , whose brother had already been married to Sabine's older sister Hedwig and whom she had met during negotiations between Wilhelm and her father. The wedding was celebrated very lavishly.

The Landgravine took care of the welfare of the country and donated the free court pharmacy in Kassel, which not only served to supply the court, but also the entire population of Kassel.

Sabine and Wilhelm's marriage was described as happy. Wilhelm designated Sabine in a first testament, in the event of his premature death, as regent of the country for the eldest son Moritz, but she died before her husband in 1581 and in a new testament Wilhelm declared his son to be of legal age.

Sabine is buried in the Martinskirche in Kassel.
