Sacha Gervasi

Sacha Gervasi (* 1966 in London , Great Britain ) is a British director , screenwriter and journalist . For his documentary Anvil! The story of a friendship received a News & Documentary Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming in 2010 .

Life

Gervasi's mother was Canadian and his father was American . In London he attended Westminster School and later studied modern history at King's College .

After completing his training, he worked, among others, for Ted Hughes , who at that time was the British national poet ( Poet Laureate ) at the Arvon Foundation .

In 1995 Gervasi moved to Los Angeles , where he trained as a screenwriter at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television . At the same time he worked as a journalist for various publications.

His first project in the film industry was the feature film The Great Mackenzie , which premiered in 1999 and for which he wrote the script with Craig Ferguson . In 2004, director Steven Spielberg turned his screenplay into the film Terminal with Tom Hanks in the lead role.

His directorial debut, the documentary Anvil! The story of friendship through the band Anvil was critically acclaimed and received several awards, including an Emmy Award and an Independent Spirit Award . Gervasi made his feature film directing debut in 2012 with the film Hitchcock , which focuses on the making of the classic film Psycho . His second film followed in 2017 with November Criminals . In 2018 he then published Mein Dinner mit Hervé, a feature film about the actor Hervé Villechaize , whom he had met as a journalist.
