List of characteristics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A feature list (also a feature list ) (SML) summarizes similar items for a simplified search in large databases.

Problem Description

Example: In production plants there can be many 100,000 parts in the parts master data in systems for production planning and control . When a new part needs to be developed, it is important to know whether there is an identical or a similar part already in the database . It is important because a new part, regardless of whether it is a single part or an assembly , has to be designed, drawn and created in the PPS system with a parts master and parts list . In the case of a part that is to be procured externally , procurement-relevant master data are to be recorded, possible suppliers to be identified, offers to be obtained, inspection regulations for the quality inspection in incoming goods to be devised and the data to be prepared for proper inventory management and storage. In the case of a part that is to be produced in-house, the work preparation department has to prepare the production and assembly , work plans with the technological definition of the individual work steps must be worked out on suitable machines , times for remuneration and scheduling and capacity planning must be determined and NC programs must be programmed and finite To calculate the part or the assembly ( preliminary calculation ).

This - incomplete - list of all tasks that arise when inventing a new part shows how important it is to identify similar parts at an early stage, either to avoid reinvention or, if re-use is not possible, the work steps that as a result, inevitably, by using and modifying similar drawings , known suppliers, similar parts lists and work plans, etc., are to be simplified and accelerated.

Definition of the list of characteristics

A feature list is the summary of the feature key of a group of similar items (or objects ). Feature keys describe the features or properties of an object. Material characteristics can be dimensions, shapes, performance levels, materials , electrical , physical and chemical properties. In Germany, the lists of characteristics are defined in DIN 4000. Currently (as of March 2017), there are more than 80 parts of this standard for different objects, such as DIN 4000-22 for tools for sawing or DIN 4000-163 for fasteners without threads . A complete overview can be found at Beuth-Verlag.

The description of a product with the help of characteristics can be viewed as a special form of the list of characteristics . The characteristics can either be loosely related to one another or form an algebraic association . This type of product definition is mainly found in branches of industry with complex and varied products, such as the automotive industry.

Use

Item characteristic lists are used to document objects. They should enable quick access to parts , assemblies , products , drawings , machines , workplaces and work plans of a company. In general, all areas of a company, i.e. research , design and development , purchasing , sales , spare parts management , materials management , work preparation and production control, benefit from carefully prepared lists of characteristics. For example, item characteristic lists support the multiple use of parts in the design. In production planning, they are used to generate parts lists and work plans.

Processes for recording, maintaining and searching for lists of characteristics according to DIN 4000 are an integral part of all common PPS systems .

example

A list of characteristics consists of a header, code letters for the individual characteristics, a designation line for the characteristics, a reference note and information about the respective unit.
