The saffron yellow sun rose ( Helianthemum croceum ) is a species of sun rose ( Helianthemum ) in the rockrose family (Cistaceae).

features

The saffron yellow sun rose is an evergreen dwarf shrub that reaches heights of 5 to 30 centimeters. The leaves are somewhat fleshy, almost circular to linear and thickly star-haired on top . They measure 5 to 20 × 2 to 7 millimeters. The petals are orange-yellow, rarely light yellow or white. The species is very variable in terms of growth form, hairiness, size and shape of the leaves and the color of the flowers.

Flowering time is from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The saffron sunflower occurs in the western Mediterranean on dry grass and limestone cliffs at altitudes of 500 to 1750 meters.

The saffron yellow sun rose is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens , dry stone walls and alpine houses .
