Said Jalili , ( Persian سعید جلیلی, English transcription mostly Saeed Jalili , * 1965 in Mashhad ) is an Iranian politician and diplomat . He is currently Chairman of the Security Council of Iran ( as of May 2012). Previously he was Vice Secretary of State and as such was responsible for European and American affairs.

He was a participant in the First Gulf War , where he lost half of his right leg. He then studied political science , received his doctorate in this subject and taught it at Imam Sadiq University .

In 2001, Jalili was appointed his office manager by Supreme Legal Scholar Ali Khamene'i . With the election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2005, he was accepted into his leadership and held the post of Deputy Foreign Minister.

Since October 20, 2007, he has succeeded Ali Larijani on the post of chief negotiator in negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and the EU-3 .
