Saint-Just Péquart (* 1881 ; † 1944 ) was a French archaeologist.
Life
Among other things, Saint-Just Péquart was President of the Société préhistorique française , member of the Commission des monuments historiques and Inspecteur des antiquités nationales préhistoriques for western France and member of the Academy of Lyon . He founded the Colonial Institute at the University of Nancy and the Revue Lorraine d'Anthropologie . He was the holder of the Order of Nichan Iftikar and the Moroccan Order of Ouissam Alaouite .
Together with his wife Marthe, he excavated numerous Breton sites, the most famous of which are the late Mesolithic cemeteries of Île d'Hœdic and Île Téviec in the Gulf of Morbihan . He also excavated numerous megalithic systems , including the Allée couverte von Net, the dolmen of St. Adrien and Kourégan , 1922 the Tumulus von Crucuny (late Neolithic), 1923–26 the stone circles of the Ile d' Er Lannic and researched megalithic rock engravings. In 1923 he carried out an inventory on the island of Houat , where he was able to prove a settlement from the late Neolithic. From 1935 to 1942 he dug in the Mas d'Azil cave ( Ariège ). Because he was a member of a French militia, he would be sentenced to death by a French court martial and executed the day before De Gaulle prohibited such executions.
Saint-Just Péquart and his wife had three children.
