The Sakumo Ramsar Site (engl. Sakumono Lagoon ) is a brackish water - Lagoon in the region Greater Accra in the West African state of Ghana .

location

This lagoon is located near the Volta estuary on the coast about twenty kilometers east of Ghana's capital Accra between the industrial city of Tema and the suburb of Accras Teshie-Nungua. Settlement in the vicinity of the lagoon has increased significantly in recent years, so the need to designate it as a nature reserve is controversial.

The African spoonbill was on the IUCN's list of threatened species in 2007 .

This approximately 35 square kilometers large lagoon is known to ornithologists for its rich bird life. The neighboring grassland is also home to a variety of bird species. In addition to the native fauna, the lagoon serves as winter quarters for many bird species. Bird species found in the lagoon include gray fishers ( Ceryle rudis ), sedge shots ( Phalacrocorax africanus ), great egrets ( Casmerodius albus ), coastal herons ( Egretta gularis ) and the rare or occasional African spoonbill ( Platalea alba ).

Regularly encountered are also slough Schnepfe ( Limosa lapponica ) Regenbrachvogel ( Numenius phaeopus ), Redshank ( Tringa erythropus ), pond water rotor ( Tringa stagnatilis ), Sandpiper ( Tringa glareola ) Steinwälzer ( Arenaria interpres ) and Collared Pratincole ( Glareola pratincola ).
